There are currently three nationally recognized sororities who contribute to the Tufts campus and make up the broader Panhellenic community – a group of over 450 women. The option to join the tight-knit community of women offered by these three organizations gives many students a support network and healthy social outlet that they may initially struggle to find. In addition to fostering a sense of community, joining a Panhellenic organization gives any female-identifying student on the Tufts campus the chance to participate in philanthropic efforts, take on leadership roles, and become more deeply involved in broader campus life. Unfortunately, the membership dues paid to each chapter average at about $500 for the first semester (dues decrease every semester of membership), creating a financial barrier to entry for some students.
We believe that every woman who wants to be a part of this supportive community should have the option to do so. Therefore, financial aid is necessary to achieve our goal of a more inclusive and representative space. The Panhellenic Scholarship Fund will affect sorority life on campus in the following ways:
For all these reasons and more, it is critical for the Panhellenic Council to form a scholarship fund. Sororities on Tufts’ campus can’t become the inclusive and welcoming environment they strive to be without breaking down the financial barriers.
By supporting the Scholarship Fund, you are empowering young women by providing access to incredible support networks.
Your contribution covers the cost of the philanthropy ticket so that a new member will be able to attend and donate to one of the great charities/ causes the chapters support!
Cover the cost for a few sisters to go to an sisterhood event where they will cultivate lifelong bonds.
Part of chapter dues go to helping insure the houses that provide these young women a safe space to be themselves, engage with others, and build lasting bonds. Your donation will cover the cost of the housing insurance and help a new member really feel like they've found a home away from home.
Sisterhood retreats allow members to bond with each other, learn about their organization and develop leadership skills. Cover the cost for a new member to participate in this amazing opportunity!
Your donation will cover the entire cost of the first semester's membership for a new member!
Your donation will cover all of the dues for a member of Panhellenic Sorority for an entire year!
