Tufts Alumni Association First Gen Scholarship

This crowdfunding project has ended, but you can still support The Tufts Alumni Association First Gen Scholarship. Thank you for your continued support!

We hit 200 donors and we’re going to keep going!  For every additional 50 donors we receive, the Tufts Alumni Council will match with a $1,000 gift, up to $10,000 total!

We need you. The Tufts University Alumni Association has an exciting opportunity to make a direct impact on a student’s life. Your support will make this a success!

The goal: If 200 alumni give to this crowdfunding project by June 30, a new scholarship will be awarded next year by the Alumni Association to a first generation undergraduate student.

The why: To help a first generation college student, regardless of their financial circumstances. The Tufts Alumni First Gen Scholarship will allow a student to focus on all that Tufts has to offer, from internships to 3D printing, without the constraints of financial need.

Upping the ante: The Tufts Alumni Council, which is the governing body of the Alumni Association, will donate an additional $5,000 to the scholarship fund if we meet our goal of 200 donors by June 30. Remember, every gift is Jumbo; your participation matters! Together,  we can unlock the $5,000 challenge from the Tufts Alumni Council.

The impact: Is palpable. The above video features Erick Garcia, A17, a first generation college student who benefited from the generosity of alumni like you. By creating this one-year scholarship, we will deepen our impact on students like Erick. You will receive an update from the recipient of the Tufts Alumni Next Gen Scholarship to learn more about the Tufts experience you helped make possible! The scholarship is given 100% by financial need.

Why now: This is part of our overall goal to continue to make Tufts accessible and broaden the alumni base of support. We’re pushing to 12,900 alumni donors, which will raise our undergraduate alumni participation rate to 22%!  Most importantly, we want to make sure the most qualified students can attend Tufts, regardless of personal finances. Tufts fiscal year ends June 30, so time is of the essence. Imagine the difference you can make in a student’s life by contributing a gift, of any amount, today.

EVERY GIFT IS JUMBO. THANK YOU!

FAQs

Why a first generation college student scholarship?

Tufts is committed to meeting the full, demonstrated need of every admitted student. We also want to be sure Tufts is accessible to the brightest students from all backgrounds. 11% of the students admitted to the class of 2021 are the first generation of their families to attend college. We want to help ensure this diverse group of applicants has the financial resources necessary to attend and thrive!

What happens if we don’t hit 200 donors?

Don’t worry, we will!  But, in case we don’t hit our goal, every dollar raised will still be put towards financial aid. Your gift will still count and help a deserving student, but we need to hit 200 for the $5,000 challenge gift.

If I already gave this year, will my gift count towards this?

Yes, it will. Our goal is to inspire alumni who have not given yet this year (July 1, 2016 – now), but all gifts made by June 30 will count. Thank you! (Can’t remember if you gave?  E-mail giving@tufts.edu)
