Final Stretch!

December 07, 2017

Thank you to everyone who has donated already! As of right now, we have met 13% of our goal! Each and every donation is greatly appreciated!

However, we are still a bit away from our goal of $10,000. To help encourage more donations, we have several challenges and perks going on right now:

The Messner Challenge:

Professor William Messner, the team's faculty advisor, is bringing back the "Messner Challenge" for Tufts students, staff and Faculty! For the student and staff challenge, Professor Messner says that for every Tufts student or staff member who donates $5 or more to the team, he will donate an additional $5, and for every 100 students or staff member that donate $5 or more, he will donate an additional $500! For the faculty challenge, for every member of Tufts faculty that donates $20 or more, Professor Messner will donate an additional $20 to the team, and if 25 or more faculty members donate, Professor Messner will donate an additional $500!

The Parent Challenge:

Senior Captain, Jordan Stone’s parents are issuing a giving challenge for team parents.  If total parent donations equal $3,000, they will contribute an additional $3,000!

Get Your Name on the Car:

We are extremely grateful for everyone who supports us as a team, because without you, we would not be able to compete as a team. So to say thank you, for every person that donates to the team, their name will be proudly displayed on our brand new car during the Formula Hybrid Competition. (Pictured below is one of our old body panels displaying supporters’ name and is now proudly hanging in our shop).

Electric Racing Team Alumni Review The New Chassis

November 19, 2017

We are well on our way to coming back to the Formula Hybrid Competition and reclaiming our championship. We have already registered for the competition, and submitted three of the design documents the competition requires us to submit. It is an exciting and busy time within the Tufts Electric Racing Team.

Last weekend, we invited recent Electric Racing Team alumni back to look at the progress we are making in designing the new chassis. We had a great time catching up and we received a lot of valuable feedback from everyone. The alumni even left their mark on us, yet again, by signing the whiteboard table they were sitting at.

The feedback was super useful, and the chassis design is getting close to being finalized. Pretty soon we will be sending out the design to be professionally welded. We will need to make a down payment when we send out the design, so your support is crucial. Help us reach more people by sharing the crowdfunding page and helping our team be successful at the Formula Hybrid Competition!

Choose a giving level

$20

Safety Glasses

A $20 gift buys a pair of safety glasses, an essential part of safety in the shop.

$50

High Voltage Gloves

The batteries powering our all-electric car operate at over 270 volts, making specialized safety gloves a necessity.

$125

Set of Brake Pads

$125 will purchase a full set of brake pads, an important consumable part of our newly designed braking system.

$250

Steering Rack

Accurate and precise steering is critical to our car’s handling and driver safety. Good steering will enable our drivers to maximize the car’s potential in competition.

$500

Two Brake Calipers

New and improved brake calipers will increase the braking force the driver is able to apply to the wheels, enabling us to accelerate harder and safely stop the car when competing and more importantly in case of an emergency.

$1,000

Transportation to Competition

$1,000 will cover the cost of renting a U-Haul to bring our car and all the necessary tools to competition at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

$2,000

Complete Braking System

$2,000 buys all the necessary parts and labor to completely overhaul our braking system, making the car safer, more reliable and more competitive on track.

$3,500

Chassis

Our largest expense this year will be the materials and fabrication for our new chassis, which will be sent out and professionally fabricated by an outside company. Our new chassis design will make the car stiffer and safer in a crash and help improve handling and drivability.
