This crowdfunding project has ended, but you can still support Cummings Thrive here. Thank you for your continued support!
The mission of the Cummings Thrive project is to, with collaboration from non-profit organization Veterinary Leadership Institute (VLI), develop an interactive program that promotes mental health awareness while also teaching students/faculty/staff personal and professional leadership skills. Cummings Thrive is a student-developed year long program consisting of monthly workshops intended to introduce topics that are important for future/current veterinarians to thrive in their everyday lives, both inside and outside the workplace. These topics include, positivity, resilience, professionalism, team building, communication and conflict resolution, advocacy in the workplace, and mental and physical health.
Each monthly workshop includes meals and both large and small group activities with strong emphasis on reflection and discussion. Every workshop is open to all students, faculty, and veterinarians affiliated with Cummings at no cost to them.
To continuously engage participants throughout the entire month and to accommodate those participants who cannot find time to physically attend the workshops, Cummings Thrive sends weekly emails. The emails include stories or quotes on the topic, and offer tangible challenges participants can complete on their own time. Many of the contents provided by Cummings Thrive were formulated with generous support from Veterinary Leadership Institute (VLI).
By coming together each month, Cummings Thrive will establish a diverse community consisting of people from various positions and grades where participants can feel comfortable reaching out for support throughout his or her time at Cummings. This semester, the program has already helped establish a close community participants can rely on for support, encouragement, and inspiration. The workshops activities also allow our third and fourth years student facilitators a chance to learn and grow as peer leaders and role models to others. Our goal is that Cummings Thrive will keep an open discussion about mental and emotional health among the population at Cummings.
By donating to Cummings Thrive, you will be providing us with enough funds for supplies and food to run monthly workshops for this entire year!
If we manage to fundraise our stretch goal of $4000, Cummings Thrive can support the Cummings School Administration in sending two students and one faculty to a weeklong leadership training called Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE) in Idaho over the summer. These two students and faculty will play a large role on campus as they will carry on the momentum of the Cummings Thrive program, facilitate at Tufts First Year Orientation Program, and continue to bring positivity to the community for years to come after the Cummings Thrive founders graduate in 2018 and 2019.
