Hello! We hope you have been enjoying the new year so far. 

We want to thank you again for supporting our implementation trip to India. Your donations helped both teams travel to India to present their projects to their company partners, Tata Projects (who makes water desalination systems for rural villages) and ReMaterials (who makes sustainable roofing tiles for urban homes).

The first company we met with was Tata Projects in Ahmedabad. Tata was welcoming and brought all of us to the village where they had a prototype of the EDR water desalination system the Tata Projects team was working on. At the village, the Tata Projects team was able to talk with the operators and gain insights into how they operated the system and what they thought of the automated ball valve the team designed. The next day, the Tata Projects team presented their automated ball valve to Tata’s engineers. They liked the design for its projected cost savings and function, and plan to use a modified version in another EDR prototype system they are constructing in Gaza.

After our time in Ahmedabad with Tata Projects, we traveled to Hyderabad to meet with ReMaterials. They were also very welcoming and gave us a tour of the production facility where they manufactured their roofing tiles. Part of the ReMaterial team’s project did not make it to India due to the snowstorm, but they were able to present the idea and construct a fair amount of their project on site with what they had and with what they could purchase in India. ReMaterials liked the design, and the ReMaterials team plans to make improvements to it with the feedback they received.

Thank you again for your support. We hope to use the feedback we gained from meeting with our companies and other stakeholders to further improve our designs.

Happy New Year!

Thank you to all of our wonderful donors. With your help, we raised a total of $6,355 for our implementation trip to India! Your donations, in addition to funds from our mechanical engineering department, will cover the expenses of the trip for all nine students traveling. Both teams are currently gathering up last minutes supplies that we need for our prototypes. We will meet up as a class in India on January 8th and work with Tata Projects in Hyderabad. Then, on January 10th, we will work with ReMaterials in Ahmedabad. Updates about our projects will be posted soon!

On December 12th, both teams presented our prototypes at the Mechanical Engineering Senior Design Showcase. We presented our projects to faculty members, fellow students, and visitors from the community! We would like to thank everyone who attended the event and our wonderful donors for all of your support.
