The Daily is distributed free-of-charge to more than 40 locations in and around three of Tufts' campuses. Your donation pays for an average delivery location's printing and delivery costs for a single day.
Many readers tell us they enjoy the Daily's print edition in part because of its crossword puzzle. This donation underwrites a month of royalties to our crossword puzzle syndicate.
The Daily's website reaches thousands of people every day with its mix of regular articles, breaking news, and multimedia and digital-exclusive content. This donation pays for about one month of web hosting.
The Daily is fortunate to have a large staff of talented photographers and graphic artists. It costs about $100 to print part of a single paper in color, allowing readers to see our visual staff's amazing work as vividly as possible.
The Daily's early-morning journey starts at some time before sunrise, when our paper is trucked from our printing contractor in Palmer, MA to Tufts. All told, it costs us $175 per day to take the paper from the printing press to dozens of campus delivery spots.
After we submit the paper every night by 1 am, our hard-working printing and delivery contractors spring into action: they convert our paper design into metal plates, run the plates on a press, cut and fold the paper, and drive it from Western Mass. to Tufts. This donation level pays for the printing and delivery costs of one of the Daily's 100+ annual issues.
The Daily is proud to sponsor two inclusivity initiatives: an application-based support fund offering stipends to staff, and a work-study program for upper-level editors who frequently dedicate 20-40 hours to the paper every week. These initiatives broaden the paper's membership by removing financial barriers, which ultimately improves our reporting by making our organization more representative of Tufts at large. A donation of $1,000 pays for one semester of need-based work-study expenses for three executive-level editors.
