Hello TWO Supporters!

As we wrap up 2017, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for the support you gave Tufts Wilderness Orientation at the start of this year. As TWO expands and develops we are often faced with deciding whether or not we need to increase our cost to the participant, and with your help 2017 was another year in which we did not have to.

Your help allowed TWO to:

• Increase participant numbers

  • TWO added 2 more trips this year, resulting in 304 participants across 37 trips

• Minimize financial barriers for participants

  • Increased the number of students who had a $0.00 participant fee

  • Added to our gear lending inventory including backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and clothing

• Improve staff training

  • TWO ran training trips for the first time, allowing every leader the chance to spend three days on trail getting familiar with leading

TWO is constantly working towards improvement, and we are so grateful in the strides we made in 2017 thanks to you. We hope that we can count on your support in future fundraisers.

Last week we finished out this crowdfunder with 28 donations in the last two days, rounding our total raised to $15,045 from 174 donors, giving a whole new meaning finishing strong! The money you have donated goes directly to TWO and we are so grateful for each and every one of you and your belief in TWO as a program and the incredible impact that it can having for incoming students!

We are excited to announce that our first step in making TWO more accessable will be to expand our program by adding two more trips, giving 16 more first-years the opportunity to participate! We will also begin solidifying the ways we can use the money raised to increase financial assistance, expand our gear-lending, and develop our staff training.

Thank you! In just two short weeks we were able to achieve our fundraising goal of $7,500!  We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for Tufts Wilderness Orientation and so energized by the number of people who have contributed (we have had over 100 donors) to making our program more accessible to incoming students! The money raised so far covers the equivalent of 23 first-year participant fees. This allows us to expand our financial assistance and equipment inventory without having to pull from our existing operating budget.

But we are not done yet! We still have 2 more weeks to knock this fundraiser out of the park!

Expanding our program to welcome more incoming students means we also need more staff, and that requires more resources for training. With these 13 days we are able to expand our fundraiser focus to the development of our TWO staff, who are the heart and soul of our program. TWO is a 100+ person team made up of current students who are passionate and dedicated to their role in the first-year experience. They work tirelessly to introduce new students into the Tufts community and act as a resource for their participants long after TWO trips return from the woods.

We are extending our goal to $12,000, which will allow us to get our staff into the woods and practicing their skills before the first-years arrive. They will learn from one another's experiences, test-out their decision making skills with their co-leaders, and develop their skill sets so that they can lead to the best of their ability. It is important to us that the diversity of our staff team is not limited by prior experience in the outdoors, and the ability to expand our training allows us to keep leadership and the desire to build community as our top priorities when hiring new staff.

As always, any contribution will be greatly appreciated, and we hope that we can hit our extended goal with the same sort of force as we have seen these last couple weeks!

We made it halfway!! A huge THANK YOU to those of you who have contributed so far. We have had students, staff, alumni, parents, friends, and campus partners all show up to support our program in such a short period of time, and we are so grateful!

Already we have raised enough to cover the participant fees of 10 first-year students! Let’s keep the momentum going! Please remember to share your love for TWO through social media, so we can get the word out!
